The major objective of this course is to provide a comprehensive review of the most important advances that have recently been made in internal medicine. The emphasis will be placed on progress that has been made in basic science, pathophysiology and clinical management of the most common disorders seen by clinicians in practice, including cancers of the breast, lung and colon, and prostate; rheumatology (gout, rheumatoid arthritis, SLE); gastroenterology (GI bleeding, liver disease, celiac disease, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease);endocrinology (diabetes, thyroid disorder, osteoporosis); cardiovascular disease; hepatology (NASH, cirrhosis, hepatitis); infectious disease (zika virus, fever, vaccines, zika virus); obesity management; ophthalmology; orthopedics (shoulder, knee, back); neurology (concussion, stroke), cardiology (heart disease in women, syncope, atrial atrial fibrillation, proteomics, CV disease, valvular heart disease, cholesterol guidelines, peripheral arterial disease, congestive heart failure, cardiac imaging, interventional cardiology); hematology (anemia, coagulation disorders); nephrology (proteinuria, hematuria, chronic kidney disease, renal failure);pulmonology (venous thromboembolism, asthma, COPD); risk management (pain management); dermatology; sleep apnea; and psychiatry. The course will also include sessions on leadership, health care quality and safety, ethics, strategic thinking, medicine and cures, and stem cells. Interactive learning formats, including case review of learner cases, small group discussions, didactic lectures, Q&A, problem solving, panel discussions and demonstrations will be incorporated into the structure of the course.
